Quick answer

Inflate on the INFLATE valve with the 12 V pump; deflate with the adaptor

Tesla's Model Y Air Mattress is 191 × 130 × 8 cm and fits every Model Y except Model Y L. Put the included pump on the INFLATE valve and plug it into a 12 V socket. To deflate, fit the adaptor and put the pump on the DEFLATE valve. Tesla does not publish a weight limit. Unused returns are possible within 30 days.

Tesla sells its own air mattress for four cars: Model Y, Model 3, Model Y L and Cybertruck. The steps below are for the Model Y version. For sizes of every Tesla mattress, see the Tesla mattress size chart.

Which Tesla air mattress do you have?

Tesla makes a separate mattress for each car. The Model Y and Model Y L versions use a separate pump. The Model 3 and Cybertruck versions have a pump built in.

How to inflate the Tesla air mattress

Tesla recommends the pump for the first inflation, because the foam is compressed for shipping and self-inflation can take longer the first time. Steps 2 to 5 follow Tesla's instruction sheet. Steps 1 and 6 are practical tips, not Tesla's text.

  1. Fold the rear seats flat and lay the mattress across the seats and the trunk floor.
  2. Find the two valves. One is marked INFLATE and one is marked DEFLATE.
  3. Push the pump onto the INFLATE valve.
  4. Plug the pump cable into a 12 V socket.
  5. Stop when the mattress is firm. Tesla says: do not over-inflate at any time.
  6. Remove the pump and close the valve.

The instruction sheet has pictures and almost no text. Next to the pump on the INFLATE valve, it shows a 20-second timer icon. A second picture without the pump shows a 90-second icon. Tesla does not explain these icons in words, so use them as a rough guide only.

Do not use it while driving

Tesla says: do not use the Model Y Air Mattress while the vehicle is in operation. Set it up only when the car is parked.

How to deflate and pack it

The instruction sheet shows the pump with its adaptor on the DEFLATE valve and a 70-second timer icon for this step. Tesla says the mattress "can be deflated and stowed in the vehicle's rear well".

  1. Fit the air pump adaptor to the pump.
  2. Put the pump on the DEFLATE valve and plug it into the 12 V socket.
  3. Run the pump until the mattress is flat.
  4. Put it in the carry bag and store it in the rear well under the trunk floor.

A practical tip, not from Tesla's sheet: let most of the air out through the open DEFLATE valve before you use the pump, then roll the mattress toward the valves. Tesla does not publish the packed size, so check your own rear well with the bag in it before a trip.

The pump and the pump adapter

The Model Y mattress comes with one air pump and one air pump adaptor. The pump has a 12 V car plug. The adaptor is the small part that fits the pump to the DEFLATE valve.

  • Power: the instruction sheet shows the pump cable going into a socket marked 12 V. Tesla does not publish the wattage.
  • USB-C or battery: Tesla does not describe a USB-C or battery pump for the Model Y mattress. We found no such option on the product page.
  • Children: Tesla says children under 12 should not use the air pump without an adult.

In Camp Mode, the Tesla manual says the car keeps the low-voltage outlet powered. The Tesla Camp Mode guide explains what else stays on.

Tesla does not publish the power source of the built-in Model 3 pump.

Size, weight and weight limit

The filling of the Model Y Air Mattress is three-inch high-density foam in a waterproof polyester cover. Tesla does not publish its weight or a weight limit.

Only the Model Y L version has a published weight: 6.15 kg on the Tesla Singapore page. Do not use that number for the standard Model Y mattress. It is a longer product.

Tesla gives a recommended operating temperature of 0 °F to 140 °F (−18 °C to 60 °C). Tesla also says not to leave the mattress in the car for long periods in hot weather.

Does it fit my Model Y or Model 3?

Tesla excludes only Model Y L, so the Model Y Air Mattress also fits the 2025 Model Y (Juniper). It does not fit a Model 3.

Common problems and what to check

It does not inflate, or inflates slowly

Use the pump for the first inflation. Tesla says self-inflation may take longer on first use because the mattress is compressed for transport. Check that the pump is on the INFLATE valve, not the DEFLATE valve.

The pump does not start

Check the 12 V plug. Push it fully into the socket. Turn on Camp Mode so the low-voltage outlet stays on.

It goes soft during the night

First check that both valves are closed. Then look for a leak. Tesla includes two repair patches in the box.

The valve or the adaptor does not fit

Use the adaptor only for the DEFLATE valve, as the instruction sheet shows. If a part is missing or broken, contact Tesla. A broken or incomplete kit cannot be returned.

Heat

Do not store the mattress in a hot car for long periods. Tesla's upper limit is 140 °F (60 °C).

Returns and warranty

  • Unopened and unused: return within 30 days of delivery.
  • Opened and unused: the same 30 days, with a 15% restocking fee.
  • Used, missing its original packaging, or an incomplete kit: not eligible.
  • Tesla does not offer exchanges. Return it and place a new order.
  • Start the return in your Tesla Account. Tesla says refunds usually take 7 to 10 business days after the item arrives at its warehouse and passes inspection.

Warranty: Tesla says Tesla-branded accessories that ship direct are covered for 1 year from purchase under its Parts, Body & Paint Repair Limited Warranty. The air mattress is not named in Tesla's warranty table, so ask Tesla to confirm before you claim. Normal wear is not covered.

You cannot return the mattress after you sleep on it. Measure your car and read the Tesla Model Y Air Mattress review first.

When a third-party mattress is a better choice

Choose a third-party mattress if you want a thicker bed, a rechargeable pump or better support over the folded-seat step. The Tesla mattress is 8 cm thick with a 12 V pump. Tesla publishes no insulation value for it.
