Why the Model 3 deserves its own mattress
The Tesla Model 3 isn't a smaller Model Y — the rear footprint, seat-fold geometry, and trunk floor differ enough that a Model Y mattress simply won't fit. I made this mistake in October 2025 trying to use my Snuuzu Model Y in a friend's Model 3 during a Bergen trip. The 190 cm length pressed against the front seat backs and forced me into a half-fetal sleeping position. After that night, I ordered the proper Model 3 version, and tested it across 12 nights between November 2025 and March 2026.
What the Snuuzu Model 3 is, technically
It's the same construction philosophy as the Model Y version — Lyocell top, memory foam middle, leveling foam, TPU base — but cut to 180 × 100 × 10 cm. The 10 cm depth and the foam composition are identical, which means thermal performance and motion isolation match the Model Y review.

How 12 nights felt
The Model 3 sleeping experience is meaningfully different from Model Y, even with the same mattress quality. The 180 cm length comfortably fits sleepers up to about 5'10" (178 cm). Above that, your feet will press against the front-seat backs unless you slide them forward as far as possible. I'm 178 cm and find the length adequate but tight; my partner at 165 cm has zero issues.
The width difference is more noticeable. At 100 cm wide vs the Model Y's 107 cm, sleeping two adults requires both to be average-sized or smaller. We managed two cold-weather nights as a couple in February 2026 — fine, but cozier than the Model Y. For couples who camp regularly, the Model Y is the better Tesla; for solo camping, the Model 3 is enough.
Cold-weather performance matched my Model Y findings: the pure foam construction stayed warm at -6°C in Beitostølen where I'd previously had air-foam hybrids feel cold by 4 AM. Bjørn Nyland's 2024 winter Tesla camping test reached the same conclusion about foam-vs-air for sub-zero conditions.

The Snuuzu Model 3 isn't right for you if...
- You're over 5'10" (178 cm). The 180 cm length will feel tight. Consider a Model Y mattress if you can switch cars, or an Model X if you have one.
- You camp as a couple frequently. 100 cm width is tight. The Model Y at 107 cm is more comfortable for two.
- You only camp 1-2 nights per year. Try the TESMAT Solo 3 at $139.
- You need to compress for storage. Pure foam doesn't compress. Try the Havnby Foam instead.

Durability after 12 nights
By the end of my 12-night testing window (March 2026), the Snuuzu Model 3 showed wear consistent with what I observed on the Model Y version. Foam compression was minimal — I measured 9.7 cm at the densest section vs the original 10 cm. The Lyocell top showed light pilling only on the side I most consistently slept on. The TPU base remained puncture-free across all loading cycles.
For Model 3 owners specifically, foam durability matters because the smaller sleeping zone means weight concentrates more per square cm. Tesla Motors Club Model 3 camping discussions have similar long-term reports — Snuuzu Model 3 owners 18+ months in still report excellent foam recovery.
Lyocell vs synthetic tops in cold weather
I directly compared the Snuuzu's Lyocell top to a budget synthetic-topped mattress in February 2026. At -3°C cabin air, the Lyocell felt distinctly less cold to bare skin contact than synthetic alternatives. The biological fiber breathes and adapts to body temperature differently from synthetic. Sleep research on biological vs synthetic fibers suggests this isn't placebo — Lyocell has measurably better thermal comfort properties.
Loading and unloading the Model 3
The Model 3 trunk has a smaller opening than the Model Y. Loading the 7.2 kg Snuuzu requires angling it through the trunk opening rather than just lifting in. After 12 trips I have a routine: stand the mattress on its long edge, slide it into the trunk diagonally, then unfold once inside. This adds 30 seconds vs Model Y loading but is manageable. For shorter sleepers under 5'5" who don't need to fold the mattress all the way to the front seat backs, the routine is faster.
Pet camping with the Snuuzu Model 3
Several Reddit users on r/TeslaModelY have asked about using premium foam mattresses with dogs. I camped with a small dog (12 kg golden retriever puppy) on three Snuuzu Model 3 nights in November 2025. The Lyocell top showed no claw damage. A washable cotton sheet over the mattress is recommended for fur and any accidents. For dog-specific Tesla camping, see our Tesla camping with dogs guide.
What Model 3 camping really feels like
For Model 3 owners considering camping for the first time, set expectations correctly: it's tighter than Model Y but absolutely viable for solo or couple-with-small-partner trips. The Snuuzu Model 3's purpose-built dimensions matter — generic mattresses leave gaps. After 12 nights I'd describe Model 3 camping as "cozy" rather than "spacious", which fits a category the Model 3 was never designed for but adapts to surprisingly well.
Common Snuuzu Model 3 questions answered
Does the Snuuzu Model 3 fit pre-2024 and post-2024 (refreshed) Model 3? Yes — the rear seat dimensions are similar enough that the same SKU works. Snuuzu confirmed this with me directly via support email in November 2025. Does it work in the Model 3 Performance? Yes — the Performance has minor suspension differences but identical interior dimensions. For more on Model 3 Tesla camping, see our overnight camping FAQ and the Tesla camping starter guide.
The 18-month long-term outlook
Based on owner reports across Tesla Motors Club and Reddit, Snuuzu Model 3 mattresses 18+ months in maintain over 95% of original foam thickness with regular use. The Lyocell top fabric shows light wear but no structural issues. The TPU base remains puncture-free in normal use. For Model 3 owners thinking about long-term ownership, the Snuuzu's 5-year warranty plus typical 7-10 year practical lifespan makes the €849 (€764 with KLEPPE) investment reasonable per night of use over the ownership period. For occasional users (5-10 nights/year), the cost-per-night works out to under €15 across the warranty period — comparable to a budget hotel night with vastly better convenience and location flexibility.
