How We Test Tesla Mattresses

The Short Version

We buy every mattress with our own money, sleep on it for at least 5 nights in real camping conditions, and update reviews after 3+ months of use. No manufacturer has editorial input.

What We Actually Do

Each mattress goes through the same process:

  1. Purchase: We buy at retail price. If a brand offers a review unit, we still buy one ourselves for comparison.
  2. Initial testing: 5+ nights of actual sleep, in different temperatures and locations. We note comfort, setup time, and any issues.
  3. Long-term use: Reviews are updated after 3 months. Some mattresses that seem great initially develop problems over time.
  4. Comparison: When possible, we test multiple mattresses on the same trip to compare directly.

Our Scoring System

Every mattress is rated on five criteria:

  • Comfort (30%) - How well did we actually sleep?
  • Build Quality (25%) - Materials, durability, construction
  • Fit & Finish (20%) - How well does it fit the Tesla?
  • Ease of Setup (15%) - Can you set it up tired at midnight?
  • Value (10%) - Is the price justified by performance?

The overall score is a weighted average of these five categories.

What We Don't Do

  • Accept payment for reviews
  • Let manufacturers approve content before publishing
  • Remove negative reviews when asked
  • Test mattresses for just one night

About Affiliate Links

We earn money through affiliate partnerships. When you use our discount codes or click our links to purchase a mattress, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate relationships never influence our ratings. We've given low scores to products from brands we partner with, and high scores to brands without affiliate programs.

Testing Limitations

We believe in transparency. Here are the limitations of our testing:

  • Climate: Testing conducted primarily in Scandinavian conditions (cool to temperate). Performance may vary in extreme heat or cold.
  • Vehicle models: Limited to Tesla Model Y and Model 3. We haven't tested in Model S, Model X, or Cybertruck.
  • Sample size: One vehicle per model. Individual interior variations may exist between vehicles.
  • Durability: Long-term durability assessed to 6 months maximum. Multi-year durability is unknown.
  • Tester profile: Primary tester is average build. Very heavy or very light sleepers may have different experiences.
  • Subjective comfort: Comfort is inherently subjective. Our ratings reflect one family's experience.

We update reviews when we learn new information. Last methodology update: January 2026.
