Test usable space
Move the front seats to a safe parked position, close the hatch and measure from the actual pillow location to the nearest obstruction. Add room for feet and bedding. A 204 cm product does not automatically suit every 204 cm sleeper, and a shorter person may still dislike the roofline or shoulder width.
Foam is not inherently “better for tall people” than air. Construction affects support, while height fit is primarily geometry. See the Model Y sizing FAQ for the other dimensions.
Convert headline length into usable length
Start with the published mattress length, then subtract the space lost to your pillow, a curved hatch, an elevated head section or a front seat that cannot move farther forward. A product can publish 204 cm and still feel short to a 195 cm sleeper if the last centimetres sit under a sloping hatch. Conversely, a diagonal sleeping position can create more effective room for a solo camper.
Tall-camper measurement checklist
- Measure heel-to-head length in your normal sleeping posture, not standing height.
- Include the thickness of your normal pillow.
- Close the hatch during the test and check toe clearance.
- Confirm the front seats remain in a safe position for the parked vehicle.
- Measure headroom at the thickest part of the shortlisted mattress.
- Check whether the exact vehicle generation has its own product variant.
Do not rely on forum claims such as “fits anyone up to 6'4”. Body proportions, pillow placement and sleeping posture make a single height cutoff unreliable.
