Camp Mode is useful, not fail-safe
Camp Mode is an official Tesla climate setting for remaining in a parked vehicle. It can keep climate, the touchscreen, USB ports and the low-voltage outlet active. Tesla also documents important limits: avoid using it when charge is low, monitor the vehicle and do not rely on climate control when a fault or extreme conditions could prevent the selected temperature from being maintained.
Security and supervision
While Camp Mode is active, Tesla says Sentry Mode and the vehicle alarm are disabled and Walk-Away Door Lock is inactive. Lock the vehicle deliberately and keep an unobstructed exit. Tesla's manual also warns never to leave a child unattended in the vehicle.
Practical checklist
- Park only where an overnight stay is allowed.
- Start with a conservative charge margin and identify the next charger.
- Check weather, cellular coverage and the car for alerts.
- Keep ventilation paths, doors and seat controls unobstructed.
- Never use a fuel-burning stove or heater inside the cabin.
- Have bedding suitable for the expected temperature if climate becomes unavailable.
Behavior can vary by model, market and software. Use the current Tesla owner-manual section as the primary source, not a fixed percentage or a social-media anecdote.
