Can You Camp in a Tesla in Winter?

By Fredrik Mastouri · Updated July 26, 2026
Short answer: Winter Tesla camping can be possible with Camp Mode, suitable bedding and a conservative charging plan, but no fixed battery percentage or temperature limit applies to every trip. Weather, vehicle condition, insulation, set temperature and charger access all matter.

What changes in cold weather

Cabin heating uses battery energy, the traction battery may have less immediately available power and snow or ice can affect access. Tesla advises preconditioning while plugged in where possible and warns against using Camp Mode when charge is low. We found no official basis for promising that one overnight stay will remain below a particular percentage.

A safer winter plan

Mattress depth does not establish insulation performance. Unless a product publishes a tested R-value, do not call it the “warmest” from thickness alone. Read Tesla's current climate guidance and our cold-weather planning guide.
