Three categories of Tesla mattress
- Pure foam: No pump. Unfold and sleep. Bulky to store but the most comfortable. Examples: Snuuzu.
- Air-foam hybrid: Pump required. Inflates a base layer with foam on top. Compressible for storage. Examples: Havnby Autolevel, NovaPads.
- Pure air: Pump required. Cheapest, smallest packed size, but coldest and noisiest.
Built-in vs external pumps
Modern hybrid mattresses (Havnby, NovaPads, TESMAT Luxe) include a built-in pump powered via 12V cigarette lighter or USB-C from the Tesla console. Inflation takes 2-4 minutes and you don't carry a separate component. Older or budget mattresses use a detached pump that you plug in separately — fine, but one more thing to forget on a trip.
Battery impact
Pump operation pulls roughly 60-100W for 2-4 minutes per inflation. That's negligible for the Tesla battery — under 0.1% of total capacity. There is no reason to avoid pump-equipped mattresses on battery grounds.
