# Is Camping in a Tesla Legal?

**Short answer:** There is no universal rule making Tesla camping legal everywhere. Legality depends on the land manager, campground, city, parking owner and posted restrictions. Use a designated campsite or obtain explicit permission; do not assume a business parking lot or public roadside permits overnight sleeping.

## Vehicle type does not override local rules

Sleeping in an electric car is still overnight vehicle occupancy. A location can prohibit camping, overnight parking or sleeping in vehicles even when ordinary parking is allowed. Store policies and internet lists are not permission.

## How to verify a site

1. Identify who manages the land or parking area.
2. Read the current posted rules and reservation conditions.
3. Check city or county restrictions where relevant.
4. Ask the operator when wording is unclear and retain the confirmation.
