# How Much Battery Does Tesla Camping Use Overnight?

**Short answer:** Tesla does not publish one universal overnight Camp Mode percentage. Consumption changes with outside temperature, set temperature, wind, vehicle, battery condition and accessory use. Plan from your own car’s live estimate, keep a large reserve and identify a reachable charger.

## Why a single percentage is misleading

Tesla Camp Mode consumption follows the gap between cabin and outside temperature rather than a fixed rate. The scenario model behind our Camp Mode calculator, version 1.2, assumes 0.18–0.32 kW of vehicle standby before any climate load, then adds 0.45–0.90 kW at a 5–10 °C gap and 0.75–1.35 kW at an 11–18 °C gap. Over eight hours that is roughly 5 kWh at the calm end and 13 kWh at the demanding end, from the temperature gap alone. Those are uncalibrated editorial assumptions published with the calculator and unchanged there in August 2026, not measurements from a test vehicle, which is why this page gives a range rather than one percentage. Heating or cooling demand also changes throughout the night. A mild, sheltered evening is not comparable with wind, freezing temperatures or strong sun. Vehicle configuration, battery temperature, selected cabin temperature and other powered features also matter. Tesla's manual tells owners to avoid Camp Mode at low charge but does not promise a fixed hourly consumption rate.

## Tesla Camp Mode overnight ranges by temperature gap

The table below models a night of Tesla Camp Mode. It is arithmetic on the assumptions published with our Camp Mode calculator as scenario model v1.2, unchanged there at the August 2026 check, over eight hours, for a 75 kWh pack. It is a modelled range, not a measurement from a test vehicle, and the spread inside each row is the honest uncertainty.

Each draw figure adds the 0.18–0.32 kW vehicle standby assumption to the climate load for that band. Below −10 °C outside, the calculator adds a further 0.20–0.45 kW on top of the row that applies. A 60 kWh pack moves every share up by roughly a quarter; a 120 kWh pack halves it.

## Plan from the car, not a generic average

One hour of Tesla Camp Mode in the conditions you expect is worth more than any published average, because it measures your own car rather than a model. Run it while you are awake, record the percentage change, and multiply by the hours you plan to sleep. Compare that with the 0.18–0.32 kW standby and the climate-load band for your cabin-to-outside gap, which the calculator splits at 4 °C, 10 °C and 18 °C: a reading far outside them means the model does not describe your night.

1. Check the forecast and the route to the next charger.
2. Run Camp Mode for an hour in similar conditions while you are awake and record the change in your own vehicle.
3. Leave a meaningful reserve beyond the observed rate for colder or hotter conditions.
4. Monitor charge and climate through the car and app; do not let an estimate replace judgment.

Camp Mode may enter Low Power Mode or stop because of a vehicle issue. A forum percentage can be a trip report, but it is not a forecast for your night.

## Conservative decision rule

A night in Tesla Camp Mode should end with enough charge for the morning drive plus a detour, which on the August 2026 calculator assumptions means budgeting 5–13 kWh for eight hours at a 5–18 °C gap before counting the drive itself. If the remaining charge would make the morning drive or an unexpected detour uncomfortable, charge first or choose a powered campsite. No mattress or efficiency trick substitutes for adequate range.
